Questions

Who is this for?

Volunteer and parent coaches of recreational basketball teams with players about 7 to 10 years old. Every drill has an easier and a harder version, so it stretches a little younger or older. It isn't built for travel or competitive teams.

I've never coached or even played basketball. Will this work for me?

Yes. That's who it was made for. Each practice is one page with times, what to say, and which drill card to use. You can read it in five minutes before practice and run it straight from your clipboard.

What do I get, and in what format?

An instant PDF download: 29 US Letter pages with 10 practices, 20 drill cards (4 per page), fair-minutes rotation sheets for 7 to 12 players plus a blank sheet, 6 parent message templates, a season-at-a-glance page and a safety page. It's designed to print well in black and white on a home printer, and it reads fine on a phone or tablet.

How long is each practice? What if mine is 45 or 90 minutes?

Each practice runs about 60 minutes. For 45 minutes, shorten the middle drills and keep the warm-up and finishing game. For 90 minutes, add a drill card from the same skill or a longer scrimmage.

How many basketballs do I need?

Ideally one per player. If you have fewer, the plans work with partners sharing a ball. The 'What to Bring' parent message asks families to send a ball with their child.

How do the playing-time rotation sheets work?

Each game is split into 8 shifts (two per quarter). Pick the sheet for the number of players who show up, write names in the numbered slots, and follow the dots. Minutes come out as equal as the math allows, and the sheet tells you how to rotate the extra shifts across games. If your league has a playing-time rule, follow that first.

Can I share it with my assistant coach?

Yes. You're welcome to print copies for your own team, including your assistant coaches. Please don't post the file publicly, share it with other teams, or resell it.

What if it isn't right for me?

Email us within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you. No hassle.

Is it safe?

The kit includes a safety page covering warm-ups, water breaks, supervision and head injuries. It's general information, not professional coaching or medical advice, and your league's rules always come first. Read our safety notes before you start.

Who makes ClipboardReady, and how?

ClipboardReady is a small independent publisher of printable tools for volunteer youth coaches. We use AI tools to help draft and design our materials, and we build them around widely used youth-coaching ideas: short explanations, lots of ball touches, small groups and fair playing time.

Is the free sample really free?

Yes. It's delivered through Gumroad: enter $0 and your email address so Gumroad can send your download link. We don't add you to a mailing list.

Do you have other sports?

Yes. There's also the First Season Soccer Kit for rec teams playing 7v7 (9U–10U, about ages 8–10), with keeper rotations built in. See /soccer-kit/.
